We are closed due to renovations. We will reopen in summer 2023, offering accommodations for everyone from the backpacking traveler to the lavish explorer.

Highland Base inherits and honors the legacy of the pioneering explorers who built the first cabins at Kerlingarfjöll in the 1930s.

A future of hospitality

The following entities are scheduled to open on July 1, 2023:

  • Refurbished legacy hotel with 15 Standard twin and 5 Standard family rooms

  • Highland Base Restaurant

  • Six Highland Base Lodges

  • Seven A-frame huts with sleeping bag accommodation or made-up beds

  • Campsite

  • Shared bathrooms and kitchen facilities

A new hotel with the 22 Deluxe rooms, 4 Premium rooms, and 2 Highland Base Suites will open on August 1, 2023.

Highland Base Baths will be ready by late summer or early fall.
