Highland Base
Safety Standards
Your safety is our highest priority. These safety standards are intended to minimize the risk of injury and ensure your health and wellbeing throughout your visit.
The Kerlingarfjöll—Highland Baths (hereinafter referred to as “the Baths”) are operated by Kerlingarfjöll ehf., an Icelandic company with a registered address at Norðurljósavegur 9, 241 Grindavík, Iceland (hereinafter referred to as “we” or “our”)
When visiting the Baths, guests assume full responsibility for their own safety and the safety of children in their care. To make your visit as enjoyable as possible, we ask you to pay special attention to the following.
Children must wear inflatable armbands
All children unable to swim must wear armbands. This is for their safety and to increase their visibility in the water. Armbands are readily available, free of charge, at the Baths.
Note: The armbands are not considered a lifesaving device and therefore do not replace continuous adult supervision of children.
All children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult guardian during their visit. Each adult guardian can only accompany two children unless the guardian is their parent. Parents are allowed to accompany all their children. The water is 50-100 cm deep (about 20-40 inches). Due to the Baths’ high mineral content, the water is cloudy and not fully transparent. Guardians should therefore be extremely alert when supervising children.
Excessive intoxication is prohibited
Each adult guest may only buy or receive 3 alcoholic beverages while in the Baths. For safety reasons, we reserve the right to refuse/withdraw access to anyone who arrives intoxicated or wants to enter/remain in the baths intoxicated. The determination of whether an individual is intoxicated is solely at our discretion. In such cases, the guest is not entitled to a refund.
Wash without a swimsuit before entering the Baths
The water's hygiene partly depends on our guests' cleanliness.
No smoking or vaping
Smoking of any kind is strictly prohibited in and around the Baths area. This also applies to electric cigarettes and tobacco products like nicotine pouches.
No diving
The water is shallow, and diving can lead to serious injury. Diving is therefore strictly prohibited in the entire Bath area.
Always comply with employee instructions
Lack of compliance with employees’ instructions, or inappropriate behavior toward other guests, can result in immediate expulsion from the Baths.
Consult with your doctor regarding any medical conditions
Consult with your doctor about any medical conditions that might affect your safety in the Baths. If you have a medical condition that makes it unadvisable for you to be exposed to cold or hot environments, you should refrain from entering the Baths.
Stay hydrated—drink water
Water is readily available for guests in changing facilities and in the Bar area. Take regular breaks to cool down. Dehydration can cause dizziness and fainting.
Mind your step—hold on to handrails
Floors and walkways may be slippery and/or wet. Exercise caution when walking in wet areas and on stairs. Do not run. Hold on to handrails where available.
Keep dry areas dry
Dry yourself before re-entering the changing facilities to prevent wet and slippery surfaces.
Keep noise to a minimum
We kindly ask our guests to respect everyone’s right to relax and enjoy the calm atmosphere in the Baths.
Secure your valuables
We are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged valuables. It is the responsibility of each guest to securely store and safeguard their valuables in designated lockers. In cases of theft, please inform an employee. Please note that clothes left on hangers are not monitored by our staff.
Walk on designated walking paths
Please respect the unique nature in and around the Baths by only walking on designated paths.
Please sort waste
Please sort waste and place it in appropriate recycling bins.
